Saudi Arabia’s First Grand Opera Unveiled at London’s Historic Goldsmiths’ Hall

Zarqa Al Yamama, the first Grand Opera produced by The Saudi Theatre and Performing Arts Commission, was recently unveiled at London’s historic Goldsmiths’ Hall, to mark the international launch of the opera. 

Attendees at the London event were introduced to a special presentation and musical preview of the grand opera which delivered a state-of-the-art theatrical production filled with sweeping orchestral movements and mesmerising choral performances. 

Audiences were treated to special performances by sopranos Amelia Wawrzon and Sawsan Albahiti of the score composed by the renowned Lee Bradshaw. World-famous mezzo soprano and leading role, Dame Sarah Connolly, followed her speech with a spectacular surprise performance.  

The inaugural Arabic Grand Opera is set to premiere to the public in Riyadh in April 2024, the production will feature locally trained artists alongside international performers to tell the legend of the heroine who was blessed with the gift of foresight. 

The Communication Group plc co-ordinated the event from conception to execution, with the event shining a spotlight on the exciting birth of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s growing opera industry, and securing coverage across print and online mediums including a double page spread in The Evening Standard.
