Last week, our client Global Rights Compliance, announced the establishment of a first-of-its-kind ‘Mobile Justice Team’ in Ukraine, to support local Ukrainian officials with the investigation and prosecution of sexual violence crimes committed by Russian soldiers on occupied Ukrainian peoples since the beginning of the conflict in February 2022.
The new Mobile Justice Team will be made up of leading international and Ukrainian prosecutors and investigators. These experts can be deployed rapidly throughout the country, to support the Ukrainian documentation, investigation and prosecution of rape and other horrific crimes of a sexual nature committed by Russian soldiers. The establishment of the team comes amidst mounting concerns that the documented ‘patterns’ of rape and sexual violence inflicted on illegally occupied peoples across Ukraine speaks to pre-planning on a more systematic level.
