Stunning new ballet-inspired sculpture unveiled at London City Island

A stunning new sculpture, ‘After the Dance’, by internationally recognised artist Colin Spofforth, has been unveiled on London City Island at Leamouth Peninsula. The piece was commissioned by Ballymore’s founder Sean Mulryan and donated by Sean and his wife Bernardine. Mr Mulryan unveiled the artwork alongside Lord Sebastian Coe, President of World Athletics, whose central role in the delivery of the London 2012 Olympics and its legacy has been instrumental in the regeneration and strength of East London today. The unveiling was followed by two short vignettes from the English National Ballet, and a performance by Tinie Tempah, patron of London City Island’s The Woods Studios who produced his latest single ‘Leader’.

The reveal of this public installation represents the ongoing commitment of Sean Mulryan, Chairman and Founder of property developer Ballymore, to his patronage of the arts. The piece becomes the focal point of Hopewell Square, sitting directly opposite the entrance to English National Ballet’s new headquarters, named the ‘Mulryan Centre for Dance’ after Sean helped bring ENB to its new home at London City Island. This new, inspired piece of public art completes Sean’s vision of a community where people can live, thrive, and create.

A number of other cultural partners have also chosen to make London City Island their home, including: arebyte Studios, which provides affordable workspaces to over 150 artists and makers in London; London Lighthouse Gallery, a photography studio and gift shop for emerging, as well as established, artists and photographers; recording studios ‘The Woods’, home to producer and songwriter Dantae Johnson, offering music and podcast studio facilities, creative events, and rehearsal space for classes with both adults and children; creative fashion studio Lulu Liu, run by a couture fashion designer who uses 3D technology in her designs; and Trinity Art Gallery, offering a platform for both upcoming and established artists. Sean Mulryan also announced a new art fund initiative which he has set up with Ian Felton, artist and curator at Trinity Art Gallery, to support up and coming artists by providing both financial and marketing support.

The Communication Group plc supported on all aspects of the art unveiling, from conception and promotion through to event delivery.
