Green light for Royal Elm Park as £500 million scheme approved by Reading Borough Council

Royal Elm Park, a £500 million mixed-use development adjacent to Reading’s Madejski Stadium, was approved unanimously by Reading Borough Council’s planning committee on 26th May, subject to conditions and a legal agreement.

The centrepiece of the development is a world-class convention centre with a capacity of up to 6,000 visitors, a facility that will be of huge asset to the Thames Valley, enabling it to maintain its position as one of the top European inward investment destinations in future years.  Royal Elm Park will also deliver over 600 new homes, 18,000 sq m of public open space, a new hotel and a range of leisure and retail facilities. One of the developments key strengths is a range of proposals to improve local traffic management and significantly expand the provision of subsidised buses, especially on match and event days.

The Communication Group plc has for two years advised and assisted the owners of the football club and the Royal Elm Park decelopment, designing and managing the public consultation process and ensuring that positive relationships were formed and maintained with a range of local stakeholders – many of whom expressed support for the project directly to the council and through the media – together with successful engagement with local and regional media and influential trade publications including: BBC News; ITV Meridian; Property Week; CoStar and The Construction Index.  Full planning permission is expected to be secured in the coming weeks, with a projected start on site for construction in the Summer of 2018.
