London mixed-use developer Rockwell ‘tops out’ at the UK’s tallest Premier Inn Hotel

Just 20 months on from when spades first hit the ground at 82 West India Dock Road, London mixed-use developer, Rockwell has now officially ‘topped out’ at the UK’s tallest Premier Inn hotel, alongside a restaurant, café, pocket park and 68 new residential properties.

The milestone event was celebrated in October 2020.

Despite constant setbacks caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the £151m 30-storey mixed use development has continued on schedule, operating in line with the UK Government’s guidance on social distancing throughout.

Present at the ceremony were representatives from the entire project team. Simpson Haugh, who designed the building, John Sisk & Son, who brought those blueprints to life and, of course, members of the Rockwell team, were all in attendance.

The creation of new jobs for locals and the establishment of a legacy in the Tower Hamlets area has been a fundamental feature of the Westferry project, and Rockwell was also honoured to host graduates of its Hospitality Skills Programme – set up in the early stages of the development – amongst its charitable partners at the ceremony.

Upon completion, the development will not only rejuvenate the local economy, but also – through the provision of affordable housing and the creation of fresh jobs for local people in the new hotel, restaurant, café and gym facilities – set a powerful precedent of truly positive and socially responsible property development which benefits generations to come.
