The Hurun Research Institute has released the Hurun UK Unicorns and Future Unicorns Index 2024, showcasing 137 outstanding British startups competing on the world stage and driving the UK economy to new levels.
The combined value of the 53 British Unicorns identified by Hurun is $172 billion, marking a threefold increase from 2020, and cementing the UK’s position as a hotspot for innovation and wealth creation.
London is the Unicorn capital of Europe with the most Unicorns and Future Unicorns on the continent, placing it above rivals Paris and Berlin, and the 5th leading Unicorn city in the world.
In addition to the Hurun Unicorns, the report identifies 45 Hurun Gazelles and 39 Hurun Cheetahs. Hurun defines a Unicorn and Future Unicorn (Gazelle or Cheetah) as startups from the 2000s, not yet listed and worth at least US$1bn (Hurun Unicorns), or most likely to go unicorn within three years (Hurun Gazelles) or five years (Hurun Cheetahs).
The Fintech sector is the best represented part of the economy, accounting for 52 (38%) of the startups across the UK Unicorn, Gazelle and Cheetah lists, including the most high value company on the list, Revolut.
The Communication Group plc supported Hurun with a tailored media campaign to announce the Hurun UK Unicorns and Future Unicorns Index 2024, securing coverage in the Mail Online, The London Standard and City A.M among others.
