Rod Laver MBE holds the record for most singles titles won in the history of tennis, while Margaret Court MBE is a former World no 1. Both players reunited in The Garden Rooms of Jumeirah Carlton Tower to celebrate the 127th Wimbledon Championships, where they shared their recommendations for Andy Murray in advance of his triumph. Rod even divulged that his prize for winning Wimbledon was a £25 voucher that he had to spend at Lillywhite’s!
Guests were served a selection of tennis-themed canapés, including devilled crab and sweet corn cakes served on tennis rackets while Derek Picot, General Manager of Jumeirah Carlton Tower, welcomed the Australian tennis legends and other guests.
They were also joined by French former tennis player Henri Laconte, who was celebrating his 50th birthday party at The Rib Room. Derek Picot couldn’t resist poking some fun at Henri’s age in his welcoming speech to all the tennis stars, saying that Henri was now “40-love”. Henri’s celebrations then continued in The Rib Room, where guests enjoyed a personally designed birthday cake by Eric Lanlard.
