Last month, Kebony, the leading global producer of dually modified™ wood, was honoured at the 2024 BLT Built Design Awards, one of the most world’s most prestigious global architecture awards programmes. The ATMOSPHERE by Krallerhof Spa project, featuring Kebony wood decking, was selected as the winner of the ‘Architecture Design of the Year’ category, the top accolade at the BLT Built Design Awards.
ATMOSPHERE is the luxurious new addition to the existing five-star Hotel Krallerhof in Leogang, Austria designed to effortlessly blend in with surrounding Leoganger Steinberge mountain range. . The wellness centre comprises a curved split-roof structure that arches over 100 metres, lowering onto 5,500m2 natural swimming lake with a 50 metre Olympic sized infinity pool situated at the lake’s heart. Kebony wood decking was chosen to surround this pool, delivering a relaxing and naturally aesthetic appearance.
Developed in Norway, Kebony wood is a dually modified™, providing a durable and beautiful building material that is also environmentally friendly. The patented Kebony® technology transforms sustainably sourced softwoods, such as pine, to mimic the durability and dimensional stability of tropical hardwood, thereby preventing the need for the deforestation of endangered rainforest climates.
On behalf of Kebony and in partnership with Hadi Teherani Architects, The Communication Group plc submitted the winning entry for the BLT Built Design Awards. Highlight media coverage of the awards success has been featured in leading international architecture titles D5 Magazine, e-architect and ADF Magazine.
A second Kebony case study, The Purbeck Project, received awards recognition this autumn, following preparation and submission of an entry by The Communication Group plc. The renovated nineteenth-century Victorian cottage, featuring a new façade clad in Kebony wood, was selected as a finalist of The Sunday Times Homebuilding & Renovating Awards, in the ‘Best Extension and Best Interior’ category.
